The visit of Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister, to Beijing yielded little more than ‘the Labubu doll in his suitcase’ according to Kemi Badenoch MP, Leader of the Opposition.

In the week since his visit, further details of bilateral investment have emerged, including a smattering of Chinese investments in the United Kingdom (UK). But, thus far, none are on the same scale as the AstraZeneca deal to invest US$15 billion (£10.9 billion) in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) by 2030. In the company’s own words, this will strengthen its ‘contribution to China’s high-quality development’.
